My teaching practice and philosophy is rooted in the Lecoq pedagogic lineage.

What the students are saying…

“Throughout my theatrical studies, I always received the note that I need to raise the stakes and going through the levels of tension really helped me feel the difference between levels and more cognizant of where my stakes were. This whole class made me feel more grounded by increasing awareness of my physical body, which I know will help me so much for auditions where I don't always feel the most grounded. The neutral mask really helped remind me the importance of living in the moment and finding discoveries. Having to live in a mask that has no past really helped me experience what it's like when everything is a new discovery. This will be so helpful in my acting, to be making sure I'm not seeming preplanned in what I'm saying, but rather discovering the thoughts on the spot.” -Neutral Mask workshop participant

“Teresa was beyond phenomenal, both as an artist and as a person. I was in awe of the level of knowledge that she possessed over the topic, but was also able to communicate it clearly to those of us who didn't have that knowledge. She was so engaging and just presented as such an open and honest person that always made me feel comfortable coming to class. She cares about her students both as artists and humans, which helped me be able to be most successful and learn the most from class. I felt like the class was super well planned to ensure that everything we were doing was building on prior work and intentionally picked to help us grow.” -Mik Motta, Neutral Mask workshop participant

“The workshop was absolutely useful for my artistic practice. I feel the neutral mask principles apply to non-mask theater work and are a foundational building block that every actor should have. I hope I get the chance to work with Teresa again soon!” -Ali Franklin, Neutral Mask workshop participant

“I appreciated the open and encouraging environment the instructor created. I felt comfortable in the class and received good constructive criticism. I’ve been interested and looking into learning more about clown work the past year and this inspired me to keep exploring this kind of work. I would love to see more opportunities like this in the Twin Cities!” -Madison Fairbanks, Neutral Mask workshop participant

The Lecoq pedagogy is an investigative approach to theatre-making that upholds ongoing research and innovation in performance practices. This is an embodied approach that places the actor-creator at the center of the generative process. Often characterized by highly physical styles of theatre, the provocations can be applied to existing texts or for use in forging new territories in the performing arts. This is a dialectic pedagogy that seeks to develop, nurture, and empower diverse artistic voices.

Through the art of observation, students discover the dynamic foundations of theatrical play. Through improvisation and analysis of movements, time and space, student investigators will “learn” what they will themselves translate from experience into knowledge. The Lecoq pedagogy offers an intensive curriculum that provides the tools, technical language, as well as experience and orientation within a universe of devised physical theatre.
